Sword of Mana Map

Well ok it’s only part of the world map, but it’s still very impressive.

I found this image on the website Game Design Reviews and to quote from their blog:

“Game Design Reviews is a Blog used by three Game Designers from Germany to publish and discuss their thoughts on various games. The Blog consists entirely of reviews of games. Each review focuses on the important game design ideas and concepts of that particular game.”

Follow the link to check out the original image and to find out more about GDR’s unique look at game reviews.

Melee Stages

Melee Stages

This is the Temple stage from the last instalment, Super Smash Bros. Melee.

I think that based on my updates so far, you probably understand that we’ve created plenty of stages.

But we wanted to do more, so we’ve brought back a number of stages that appeared in the last game.

Melee Stages

We’ve tried to create an exact replica, but there may be a few areas that differ from the last game. I hope you understand.

In general, the Melee stages have the same background music as in the last game, but we’ve also prepared some tracks like this.

GTA IV Box Art

Filed under: Latest News, Microsoft, Sony | Comments (0)

GTA IV

The official GTA website updates with this rather cool box art.

Snippets of information are slowly leaking out and with the release of GTA IV delayed until 2008 feeling so far away, even the smallest of news makes the game slightly more tangible.

The official site also informs us of a new trailer for the game titled “Move up, ladies” coming 06/12/2007, with the internet melting shortly after.

My advice is to avoid the internet that day in case it actually happens.

Tabloid Blames Games For Bad Illiteracy

Filed under: Latest News | Comments (0)

ABC

The Sun Newspaper blames gaming for drop in British reading skills.

Gaming, it seems is still the world’s punch bag when it comes to problems that no wants to face up to. In a recent worldwide survey of child reading skills, the once 3rd placed England has dropped to 15th and the Sun was quick to lay the blame on video games.

The Sun stated:

“Kids hooked on computer games have sent England plummeting down world league tables for reading,

Their whole basis, it seems, for this inflammatory remark comes from Schools secretary Ed Balls who points out the usual suspects:
“Today’s youngsters have more choice now than in 2001 about how they spend their time. Most of them have their own TVs and mobiles and 37 per cent are playing computer games for three hours a day. We all need to help our children of all ages to see that reading can bring fun to their lives.”

While the Sun’s response is not totally unexpected, it is still annoying that Gaming takes the brunt of the criticism while other contributing factors like Television, social interaction and peer pressure are briefly touched on but brushed aside.

Check back soon for a more indepth report.

Sega Lets Of Some Steam

Sega Steam

Really bad puns aside, great news for Steam and Sega lovers.

Sega Rally is now available on Steam, also joining shortly will be Universe at War: Earth Assult, Sega Rally Revo and The Golden Compass.

These new additions to Steam are part of a Sega and Valve agreement to deliver new Sega games via Steam, Games previously only available in America have also been released in Europe. This new line up for Europe include OutRun 2006, Medieval II and Rome: Total War.

Currently Steam is offering a $5 credit for a limited to any purchases made on Steam, so there’s really no excuse, is there?

Entire NES system in a controller?

Filed under: Latest News, Modification | Comments (0)

NES inside a NES pad?

Now i thought i had seen it all, i mean the NES PC, laptop X360, portable Wii to name just a few but this has blown me away this afternoon!

This is the NES inside a Nes pad and it is truly great!

NES inside a NES pad?

What they have done is puts an entire old school NES system inside one of it’s controllers with two RCA outputs for video and sound into a TV which to me is mind numbing!

Even the Nintendo logo on the front of the controller lights up with a red glow.

NES inside a NES pad?

And top this off it was made as a gift for the guy’s girlfriend’s birthday!

Below is what the pad looks like with a game plugged into it! (Sweet!)

Happy Birthday Level Select

Filed under: Editiorial, Events, Latest News | Comments (0)

Is a lie

Level Select is one today.

Believe it or not but Level Select is now one year older, it’s been an interesting year, where we’ve witnessed the Wii join XBOX 360 and PS3 in the “next generation” of gaming, even though I’m sure we’re still waiting to be told when the next gen will arrive.

The battle for domination has not been as clear cut as previous generations, and has made it all the more interesting to experience, as described by the briefest run down of past events since 29th November 2006.

Microsoft had nearly a year’s head start on both Sony and Nintendo, this lead enabled them to take up the slack from Sony’s absence and literately poach exclusivity deals. Their online service is still by far the best on offer.

Nintendo’s console has been so popular it’s been difficult to find in the shops and still continues to be absent from the shelves, So many Wiis have been sold that it only took eleven months to catch up to Microsoft. Its low spec and motion controls have enabled underrated games a second chance and introduced gaming to a whole new demographic

Sony took a lot of flak at the beginning of the year and was almost laughed out of gaming in the process, but they stuck it out and now appear to be gaining momentum. The Folding@home distributed computing has been admitted into the Guinness world records and Sony has even released a smaller, cheaper PS3.

Smash Events!

It’s the return of Events! This is a single-player mode in which you battle through predetermined situations.

Oh! The pictures make it easy to understand.

Smash Events!

Smash Events!

  • Two Trouble Kings
  • Pink Ball Repulsion
  • Cleaning House in Skyworld
  • Sleeping in the Eggs
  • Dark Link Duel

For these, a harder setting is probably more exciting, but you can go ahead and set it however you like.

For example, you’ll find these kinds of situations:

High scores are recorded for each challenge at each difficulty level. You don’t just clear these challenges – competing for time will magnify the fun.

Enjoy Smash’s chance meetings between a variety of characters!

Diamonds And Gold are a Gameboy’s best friend!

Filed under: Latest News, Retro & Arcade | Comments (0)

Gold Boy

While clearing out my bookmarks I came across this little gem!

Introducing the Diamond and Gold Game Boy.

This is the craziest idea I think anyone has ever had by taking an old Gameboy and smothering it with gold and diamond’s

It was commissioned By Aspreys of London and is the only solid 18K Yellow Gold Gameboy Goldboy as I’m now calling it!

Spec’s are:

  • It is In Full Working Order
  • Pave Diamond Set On Display Screen
  • Diamonds Set On/Off Buttons
  • Exceptionally Heavy - Solid 18K Yellow Gold
  • Original Cables And Game Cartridges
  • Original Blue Leather Display Briefcase

So how much do you say? Well it will set you back around $29,500 and I can think of many things I would rather have than this but saying this it is very cool!

Wario-Man?

Wario-Man?

Wario’s Final Smash is Wario-Man!

Even after becoming Wario-Man, you control him as you normally would. And he doesn’t unleash any overwhelmingly powerful attacks.

Wario-Man?

But he is able to negate a variety of moves and boasts some rather odd abilities…

Wario-Man?

His special moves are also powered up, but the one thing you can’t do is ride his bike.

Don’t do it, This may seem like a joke, but you absolutely must not ride it.

Donkey Kong’s Theme & Widescreen Support!

Filed under: Latest News, Nintendo, Smash Bros. DOJO | Comments (0)

He is the mainstay who has built the Nintendo sound since the days of Game & Watch: Hirokazu Tanaka.

He wasn’t included on the list of musicians until now, but he secretly joined the fray!

And then there’s this arrangement of the original Donkey Kong theme. It has gone in the direction of the unexpected, becoming completely different from the work of the other musicians.

Widescreen Support

This title, like most Wii titles, supports widescreen display. In other words, you can enjoy the game with full display across televisions with wider screens, too.

Widescreen Support!

Widescreen Support!

The border off the screen that cues a KO is the same for both. Choose the display mode that matches the TV you have at home.

But some people may not know if they have a normal TV or widescreen TV, and may not even know what difficult terminology like 4:3 or 16:9 means. Right? Who knows all that stuff?

So, all you have to do is check the circle that appears in the background on the screen where you choose your display setting.

Being able to just look at the image and know if you got your settings right is pretty huge, huh?

Ah, yes. If your television has screen size settings called Wide and Full, set your TV to Full. If you choose Wide, there is a chance the image may be shifted toward the centre of the screen.

Link’s Bargain Training

Link's Bargain Training

Become an experienced bargain hunter, without the need for a perma-tan…

While scouring the website hotukdeals I found this bargain for the soon to be released Link’s Crossbow Training for £14.97, all you need to do is pre-order the title from Tesco.com’s Jersey branch.

I know what your thinking “is it legit?” in short yes It is! It exploits the UK’s import customs regulations which doesn’t charge tax on products under £18.

This information is also stated on the HM Revenue and Excise guide to shopping on the Internet , so anyone looking for a bargain couldn’t go far wrong with this one.

Smash Controls

Filed under: Latest News, Nintendo, Smash Bros. DOJO | Comments (0)

Smash Controls

If you use the Controls function under Options, you can assign controls to any button configuration you like.

What’s important to know is that button configurations must be tied to a specific name. Once you do that, any time you choose that name afterwards, you’ll automatically play with the button settings you chose.

Smash Controls

Smash Controls

Smash Controls

Smash Controls

What’s that thing that says “Shake Smash” in the Wii Remote and Nunchuk section?

With this function, you just shake the Wii Remote to do a Smash Attack in the direction you shook it. It’s a little bonus we added.

Also, if you turn Tap Jump off, you can cut the jump function out of the up direction on the Control Stick. This means it’s easier to do an up attack without jumping into the air. Use whichever way you prefer.

Do it to your heart’s content. Try to find the perfect button combination!

But, if you decide to play Smash at a friend’s house, your button configuration naturally won’t be there. And trying to set it up all over again is sort of a pain.

When the menu screen pops up, press and hold both the 1 Button and the 2 Button. After a moment, your name will be saved to the Wii Remote. Of course, you can expect your control settings to carry over along with your name!

Pack your name into your Wii Remote and transfer it to the Wii console at your friend’s house. Then choose that name to play with your button configuration.

NES on your DS?

I know what i would love for christmas!

And that is the CYBER Familator Lite This little (Well sort of little) bundle of joy now makes it possable to play all your Nintendo Famicom (NES) games on your DS!

At the moment it will only play Japanese Famicom titles but i guess you could just use a  NES converter  cartridge!

The only thing that botyhers me is the fact the unit is twice the size of the DS so it is a little bulky but ill let  that go as i now means all your NES games are now portable!

Impressions: Guitar Hero III

Guitar Heroism returns for a third instalment and not only has some new tricks up its sleeve, but also graces a Nintendo console for the first time.

The game comes with a rather nifty looking guitar which is modeled on the Gibson Les Paul. The guitar itself is quite comfortable to hold and feels solidly built; although just like a real guitar it wont hold up to axe swinging.

Ultra Rare Game Cart On Ebay

Filed under: Latest News, Retro & Arcade | Comments (0)

NWC1990

Nintendo World Championship NES cart going for $12,000 on ebay

If you are wondering how rare this is then only 116 of these carts were ever made, ninety of them were silver, just like this one and the remaining twenty six were gold.

They were made for the Nintendo World Championships, a USA wide tour (World Championship???) in the 1990’s. The cart itself features three games Super Mario Bros, Rad Racer and Tetris.

The object of the competition was to complete a particular challenge on each game in a time limit of six minutes. The Super Mario bros. Challenge was to get 50 coins, Rad Racer’s challenge was to complete the first stage as quickly as possible and after this you went on to Tetris where you played for the remainder of the six minutes. Your Tetris score was also multiplied by 25.

The top 26 finalist were awarded the Gold cart and the remaining 90 runner-ups the silver, the Winner of the NWC was also awarded with a tour of Nintendo HQ.
