Could it be that the Wii is capable of handling and running high quality graphics which could rival its HD competitors?

Well that’s what High Voltage Software is hoping to acheive with its Quantum3 engine, which is aiming to emulate xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 graphics on the less powerful Wii. The Quantum3 engine has been developed over a number of years and aims to give game developers the opportunity to make use of advanced graphical features, including better dynamic bump mapping, light effects, and glossing to offer vastly improved game titles. The engine also boosts advanced processing techniques to make gameplay smoother and a host of innovative blend operations.

Ulimately the aim is to achieve a 60 frames per second framerate for Wii games. The first game to test this new engine at this super fast framerate is to the ‘Conduit’ – a futuristic first-person shooter built from the ground up exclusively for the Wii.

Check out the technical demo of the new engine below to give you a little teaser of what could be instore for the future of Wii gaming. I have to say I’m impressed with this and looking forward to more info on Conduit!!
