Americans have been waiting for Club Nintendo to grace their shores for some time and finally after years of crying their voices were heard and their prayers were answered. We finally received Club Nintendo in the States and I made sure to sign up right away. Sure the site was plagued with slow speeds and inconvenient server overloads where you couldn’t even log in at times. Sure the whole deal was frustrating but we finally got a chance to earn rewards for all of our undying Nintendo support.
After registering my products and filling out surveys I was able to climb my way to Gold Status with 400 coins. Not to bicker but I did spend a good deal of money on games and I can’t imagine how much it would have taken for me to have obtained a Platinum Status. Further more, I don’t really care how much it would have taken now that I have seen what kind of rewards that you actually get. For all of the Nintendo love that rained money from my pockets I received a spiffy calendar for 2010.

If only I could have reached the financially-debilitating Platinum Status. I could have had a chance to play a new character for Punch Out! or I could had chosen to get an honest-to-goodness true-to-life replica of the hat worn by main man himself, Mario. THE FREAKING HAT WORN BY MARIO! I was pissed to be getting some stupid calendar. At least now I count the days that I won’t be wearing Mario’s hat while stomping on turtles and throwing fireballs from my hands. I was as pissed as when you fall into the same lava pit three times in a row. You know the feeling. SUPER PISSED.

Then, just when I was about to hit rock bottom a beautiful thing happened; someone showed me a webpage that is dedicated to all things Mario. I checked it out, not expecting much, and I was pleasently surprised at some of the things they had for sale on the site. There is even a Plush Mario hat that looks just like the one available to the Platinum Club Nintendo members. It’s not the exact thing that club members are getting but who cares, it’s a freaking sweet Mario Hat-Type Cushion thing that I could just as easily turn into a hat. What is even better is that they have a Luigi hat just in case I ever wanted to nervously shake at the sight of an enemy like Luigi does.
Now do yourself a huge favor and go here www.mariofriend.com and I guarantee that you won’t be dissappointed. The site rocks for any person who loves Mario.

We have a similar set-up in Europe with the stars system, I haven’t used it a lot but generally if there is anything I want its usually over priced and in limited numbers.
On the plus side you can convert you stars into Wii points, controversially though they wiped everyone’s points clean before they introduced this.

I downloaded SMB3 and Defend your Castle with the Wii points I could rack up by registering my stuff. I say downloading games with it is much more rewarding than buying N merchandise. That Mario cap would be awesome though. :)

The Mario hat is super sweet, but how much use would you get out of it compared to the games you downloaded? I would much rather choose some Wii Points over merchandise. Let’s hope that Nintendo brings that idea to this side of the pond.
