Mock Up Frenzy!
Filed under: Arts & Crafts, Latest News, Microsoft, Nintendo, Retro & Arcade, Sony | Comments (0)The Pixelation forum have challenges on a regular basis where by the forum members can enter works of art specific the the requirements of each challenge. This time around the criteria was to de-make a modern game to within the limitations of the graphical power of the humble Game Boy. The results speak for themselves, with all manner of games de-made including The Legend of Zelda The Twilight Princess (above), to Bioshock, Yoshi’s Story, Burnout and Boktai (shown below) all getting me excited for games that do and will never exist! Daniel Roswell @ 7:03 pmMaster Chief Disguised As Samus Aran
Filed under: Arts & Crafts, Latest News, Merchandise, Microsoft, Nintendo | Comments (1)
So would you call him Master Aran (sounds vaguely “Mysterious Kung Fu Master” to me) or Samus Chief? Or could this be the Bounty Hunter herself?
This custom paint job for the Master Chief was born out of the result of speculation about how closely the Master Chief looks to Samus Aran. The figure was made using the Body and the arms of the EOD variant armour and the C.Q.B variant helmet, it was then painted to match Samus’ Varia suit.
Created by eBay user deathwind000, who promises the paint won’t rub or chip off, it can be yours for a very reasonable starting bid of $1 and shipping for $7.

Filed under: Arts & Crafts, Latest News, Retro & Arcade | Comments (0)You haven’t played it old school until you’ve played it on an oscilloscope!
Most poeple when asked about the early computer games, myself included, would have probablly mentioned Pong as the game that started it all. And they would be on the right track. Although fourteen years before pong there was Tennis for two, a side on view of a tennis court using an oscilloscope screen. (Read on …)

Mike Ballan @ 8:46 amSnake Played On Dorm Windows
Filed under: Arts & Crafts, Video | Comments (0)I’m sure must of you will be familiar of the Snake game. The title that ship as standard with mobile phones before the age of colour screens (talk about show my age!). Snake has made the jump from little mobile screen to giant immobile screen.
This might remind you of the also awesome Tetris game recreated in dorm windows, which while similar, was created by an entirely different group of students. A group of Russian students to be exact and you can check out their work here House Tetris. This new work, however, was cleverly put togehter by Polish students and you check out more of their work at their youtube page.

Jay Garrick @ 10:57 amHalo Corpse Alphabet Completed!
Filed under: Arts & Crafts, Latest News, Microsoft | Comments (0)The Halo corpse alphabet has finally finished, and it only took a month killing to do!
Created by the guys at I <3 Halo 3 Screenshots, the images are made up of either a Spartan or an Elite killed during battle. One of the I <3 Halo 3 Screenshots members known as AusQB has even painstakingly removed all traces of the background image to create a macabre font.
Currently only A-Z is available in font format, but rest assured AusQB is working away at completing the numbers and punctuation marks too.
The Halo Corpse Alphabet is a rather macabre project with the goal being to represent every letter of the alphabet by the twisted, curved, stretched, and otherwise dead Spartan and Elite bodies from Halo 3. The Halo community was clearly up for the challenge as they miraculously managed to capture every single letter, number, and even some punctuation in the form of screenshots. Have fun viewing the Halo Corpse Alphabet, then try your hand at writing with it by utilizing the font included at the end. Enjoy!

Link Amigurumi
Filed under: Arts & Crafts, Latest News, Merchandise, Nintendo | Comments (1)I know this is impossibly cute , but first off, I had no idea what Amigurumi meant so I had to “Wiki it” to find out. The best way to describe it is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures.
Possibly because it is Link I think this is the best Amigurumi (check me out and my new vocabulary!) i’ve ever seen. The level of detail is almost unbelievable, even down to his Master Sword, Hylian Shield, Lon Lon Milk and Ocarina, which have also been pain stakenly recreated in miniture form.
The artist artoo1121 has recreated a whole bevy of Star Wars and Lord of the Ring characters to this cute Amigurumi style, which can all be viewed on his Flikr page. Also if you would like to purchace any of his work you can do so via his Etsy page, called Geek Central Station.

Daniel Roswell @ 9:58 pmPlanet Halo
Filed under: Arts & Crafts, Latest News, Microsoft | Comments (0)This is what Halo 3’s Last Resort would look like if turned into a planet, or Planetoid as the series of images for the Halo maps are being called.
As pointed out on tiedtheleader if you spend long enough in these virtual worlds they do become as if real themselves. Which is very similar to my own thoughts on the images, that is they are already worlds, we simply visit. If you think about it, it’s what as gamers we’ve been trained to think. World 1-1, anyone?
I don’t know what the reasoning behind the images is, but like any good work it’s already got people debating.
If you’re thinking this would make a sweet desktop, then you’re in luck because the artist Tim Crowson has posted multiple sizes on his blog, from really small to OMG! that’s huge!

Mike Ballan @ 9:24 amAndrew Bell’s Nurikabe
Filed under: Arts & Crafts, Latest News, Nintendo | Comments (0)
Does this guy look familiar?
Well it should as this guy is called Nurikabe other than being the inspiration for Super Mario’s Whomp. It’s also from Japanese folklore and below is the entry from Wikipedia:
Nurikabe is a yokai, or spirit, from Japanese folklore. It manifests as a wall that impedes or misdirects walking travelers at night. Trying to go around is futile as it extends itself forever. Knocking on the lower part of the wall makes it disappear.”
Looking on Neatorama.com I saw the above Nurikabe by Andrew Bell and all I want now is my very own Nurikabe to sit on my desk! You can get yourself a cool painting or print over at I Heart Cool Stuff.
