Red Alert 3 - “Talent” Trailer
Filed under: Latest News, PC, Video | Comments (0)To anyone who’s ever played these games, Command & Conquer has always been about the cutscenes. Red Alert, to me at least, was always “C&C without Kane”. Sure, the gameplay tended to be better, but Kane was what really mattered.
This time round it’s different. This time round it’s personal. This time round, Red Alert 3 is “C&C without Kane or Lando Calrissian or that bloke from Starship Troopers/Total Recall”!
Ever since RA3 was announced, the question was always going to be “Can EA outcheese Billy Dee Williams & Michael Ironside arguing about the best way to blow everything up?”
With the new cast announced at the Leipzig Games Convention, EA is certainly giving it its best shot. We’ve got Lisa Hunter from Hollyoaks, John Abruzzi from Prison Break, J. Jonah Jameson from Spiderman, Governor Weatherby from Pirates of the Carribean and the smug, bearded, tubby chap from almost every B film ever made!
Oh, and Sulu seems to have been taking lessons from the Klingons. Right on.
Neil Atkinson @ 2:16 pmProject RPB has Risen
Filed under: Latest News, PC, Video | Comments (0)A couple of years ago, things looked pretty grim for Gothic fans. With the release of a rather buggy Gothic 3, tensions between publisher Jowood & developer Piranha Bytes heightened & the future for the series was uncertain.
Now, with Jowood having announced both Gothic 4 & an expansion pack for Gothic 3 and PB revealing this trailer for Risen (previously Project RPB), things are looking up.
All I can say is that if PB manage to combine the atmosphere and story-telling of their original Gothic with the graphics in their new trailer, then this is one gamer who is going to feel ruddy bloody good!

Daniel Roswell @ 10:53 amMeet The Sandvich Video
Filed under: Latest News, PC, Steam, Video | Comments (0)![]()
One of the Heavy’s unlockable weapons is actually food and is called The Sandvich.
It tastes as good as it looks and heals 120 health. Like in real life, the decision to eat a Sandvich must not be taken lightly; The Heavy is completely vulnerable during the four second eating process, and his loud, happy sounds of vigorous chewing will draw enemies like tiny ant cowards to a picnic. OF DEATH. On the bright side, the Heavy’s Sandvich supply is unlimited, so his only real concern is being caught short while enjoying this delicious edible device. The Sandvich is a great tool for a Heavy defending an area, as it gives him the ability to replenish health between enemy waves without having to abandon his post. Similarly, an offensive Heavy without a Medic can step back from the front line and grab a quick snack before resuming his rampage. Beware, however: the Heavy must set aside his shotgun to take the Sandvich, and enemy Snipers are much more dangerous for a Heavy wielding only a minigun.

Daniel Roswell @ 1:30 amArena Mode
Filed under: Latest News, PC, Steam | Comments (0)
Today Valve teases us with the penultimate update on the Heavy update for Team Fortress 2. Called Arena Mode, it is effectively a stripped down variation on your standard control point game, involving just one capture point, shorter rounds and only life per player.
A win is awarded to the team left standing at the end, or to who captures the point as a result the game incredibly quick and can be won or lost depending which classes are in your team, or depending on the tactics chosen. And even though the maps are quite small they can still comfortably support anywhere between three vs three or twelve-on-twelve brawls. (Read on …)
Daniel Roswell @ 5:05 pmNatascha
Filed under: PC, Steam | Comments (0)Valve introduces us to Natascha, which you could say is Sasha’s weaker little sister because she takes longer to kill. Also If Natascha hits you, it will slow you down so it might not be such a good idea to go charging into battle against her.
Having said that it’s suggested that Natascha would be best utilised on fleeing cowards, such as Scouts & Medics and not anyone on a killing spree.

Daniel Roswell @ 11:53 pmDC Online
Filed under: Latest News, PC, Sony | Comments (0)one minute DC Comics is nowhere on the gaming horizon, the next it’s got a Mortal Kombat mass up, a publishing deal with Capcom and now details of DC’s MMO have shown up. Sounds like they’ve taken a few leafs out of the Marvel marketing strategy, although lets hope they don’t follow Marvel in the bad games department.
Key Features of DC Universe Online:
- Based on the distinctive, acclaimed artwork and designs of comic book legend Jim Lee.
- Iconic DC Comic settings and characters, from Gotham City to Arkham Asylum, Batman to Blue Beetle.
- Players can enter a persistent DC Universe and fight alongside their favorite heroes and villains to play their own adventure in the mythology of these legendary characters and locales.
- DCUO will be an online world that stays true to the DC Comics property and allows players to feel and act like super heroes or villains.
- Physics-based fighting turns vehicles, streetlights and other players into weapons, resulting in dynamic combat scenarios that are different every time.
DCUO is being developed by Sony Online Entertainment and is only slated for PlayStation 3 and luckily enough PCs too. (Read on …)
Daniel Roswell @ 10:00 amWar Games 25 Years On
Filed under: Events, Latest News, PC, Retro & Arcade | Comments (0)25 years is a long time, for a movie that puts you in auto classic status, not that WarGames needs such generosity because it is a classic anyway. Made around the time video gaming was in it’s infancy WarGames inspired a whole generation of would be hackers, gamers and geeks alike and made you believe even us geeks could get a girl as attractive as Alley Sheedy.
Wired’s article, comprised as an interview with Walter Parkes, Lawrence Lasker and Peter Schwartz delves into what makes WarGames so popular today and their influences at the time that shaped the movie. It’s well worth a read if you’d like to not only know more about the film but also the gaming industry during the 70s/80s.

Hopefully you know the drill by now, as updates go general improvements or fixes aren’t really news worthy and they don’t really affect your gaming experience. Daniel Roswell @ 8:03 pmMachinima UK Music Video Contest
Filed under: Events, Latest News, PC, Video | Comments (0)Have you ever watched Machinima and thought to yourself that you could do better? Or simply watched it and thought you’d like to give it a try? Well Machinima.com/uk and Rustlers Microwave snacks have teamed up with Jonathan Coulton (bloke above of Portal Still Alive fame) to offer UK residents a chance of Machinima fame and fortune.
The competition is to celebrate the launch of Machinima.com’s UK website and is part of it’s commitment to bringing the art of Machinima to the UK. Open to any UK resident over the age of eighteen, it’s a chance for any budding director to show off their skills and help raise their profile both within the community and for the community itself.
Jonathan Coulton has very kindly lent two of his songs to the competition, of which one needs to be used to create a music video within the realms of Machinima, it’s that simple. If you fancy a go at it you must hurry because you only have until 1st of August to submit your entry. For more information about the competition, the rules and the cool prizes on offer for the winners visit the competition page.
Also for those who would like to give it a try but lack the technical knowhow might want to check out DigitalPh33r’s Guide to Making Halo 3 Machinima: Parts One & Two (which granted are made will Halo 3 and Xbox in mind but are still full of useful information none the less).
Daniel Roswell @ 12:21 amQuake Live Trailer
Filed under: Latest News, PC, Video | Comments (0)It’s been quite a while since we heard anything about Quake Live, id’s free online Quake III game. It almost went through E3 without even a peep. Fortunately a trailer for the game was sighted by one of Destructoid’s readership (I’m assuming from the post credit) and posted on the website.
The idea of a free version of Quake both baffles and amazes, it’s a bold move by id and will be a timely reaction to current gaming market. Off course “free” comes at a price, which in this case you pay with your senses and not your wallet. This is because all of the 30 levels being made available will carry some form of advertisement, how much of an endorsement per stage is not yet known.
From a financial stand point the game is covered from the adverts, so the ability for these companies to recoup their investment will be scrutinised (if possible). I think the real question should be if from a gamers perspective, can a game laden with adverts be as immersive as one without?
I think this issue and ultimately its success will boil down if gamers can.

Daniel Roswell @ 10:50 pmStill Alive
Filed under: Latest News, Microsoft, PC, Steam, Xbox Live | Comments (0)A lot of people, myself included were wondering what excatly is Portal: Still Alive?
Well in answer to the question Valve’s Doug Lombardi has very kindly stepped forward to explain the situation, are you sitting comfortably? Then we’ll begin.
Portal: Still Alive is a standalone version of the original Portal that can be purchased through Xbox Live Marketplace. In addition to Portal itself, it will include a number of levels that are not part of the game’s story, and do not feature story-related elements such as GLaDOS voice over.
This version of the game is currently exclusive to XBLM, but for PC owners who would like to experience the game too, can do so by simply downloading the Portal: The Flash Version MapPack for the original game and what’s more it’s completely free.
Portal: The Flash version can be found here

Daniel Roswell @ 10:17 pmMax Payne Trailer
Filed under: Latest News, Microsoft, PC, Sony, Video | Comments (0)I’m not the biggest fan of video game movies, in fact I’m not fan at all. I see Mortal Kombat as the best of a very rotten pack and it’s only an average move. I will treat any announcement of said game movies with scorn and avoid them like the plague when they get released (usually direct to video).
which is why with a hint of humble pie I present the Max Payne trailer because dare i say it, but it actually looks quite good. If it is any good it will no doubt topple Mortal Kombat off it’s mediocre throne.
Daniel Roswell @ 1:21 amLego MMO Artwork
Filed under: Latest News, Microsoft, Nintendo, PC, Sony | Comments (0)The artwork and logo for the still in development MMO Lego game should give an indication as to how the game will play when it’s finished. I suspect if you play Lego Star Wars, Indiana Jones or the upcoming Batman games you will have a pretty good idea of what the game will be like, only more massive, with multiplayer and contained within an online world. Jokes aside if done correctly this could be a great addition to the already growing Lego gaming cannon. (Read on …)
