Red Alert 3 - “Talent” Trailer
Filed under: Latest News, PC, Video | Comments (0)To anyone who’s ever played these games, Command & Conquer has always been about the cutscenes. Red Alert, to me at least, was always “C&C without Kane”. Sure, the gameplay tended to be better, but Kane was what really mattered.
This time round it’s different. This time round it’s personal. This time round, Red Alert 3 is “C&C without Kane or Lando Calrissian or that bloke from Starship Troopers/Total Recall”!
Ever since RA3 was announced, the question was always going to be “Can EA outcheese Billy Dee Williams & Michael Ironside arguing about the best way to blow everything up?”
With the new cast announced at the Leipzig Games Convention, EA is certainly giving it its best shot. We’ve got Lisa Hunter from Hollyoaks, John Abruzzi from Prison Break, J. Jonah Jameson from Spiderman, Governor Weatherby from Pirates of the Carribean and the smug, bearded, tubby chap from almost every B film ever made!
Oh, and Sulu seems to have been taking lessons from the Klingons. Right on.
Neil Atkinson @ 2:16 pmProject RPB has Risen
Filed under: Latest News, PC, Video | Comments (0)A couple of years ago, things looked pretty grim for Gothic fans. With the release of a rather buggy Gothic 3, tensions between publisher Jowood & developer Piranha Bytes heightened & the future for the series was uncertain.
Now, with Jowood having announced both Gothic 4 & an expansion pack for Gothic 3 and PB revealing this trailer for Risen (previously Project RPB), things are looking up.
All I can say is that if PB manage to combine the atmosphere and story-telling of their original Gothic with the graphics in their new trailer, then this is one gamer who is going to feel ruddy bloody good!
Neil Atkinson @ 2:15 pmTiger Woods Makes The Jesus Shot!
Filed under: Latest News, Microsoft, Video | Comments (0)Bugs are an unfortunate and sometimes unavoidable part of gaming. When you actually think about the many thousands of lines of code and the man hours of testing required, it’s fairly reasonable to allow the occasional flaw. Although in Tiger Woods 08 one incredible glitch that should have been found and removed was the ability to walk on water, shown in the above video. (Read on …)

Stuart Witts @ 2:12 pmMeet The Sandvich Video
Filed under: Latest News, PC, Steam, Video | Comments (0)![]()
One of the Heavy’s unlockable weapons is actually food and is called The Sandvich.
It tastes as good as it looks and heals 120 health. Like in real life, the decision to eat a Sandvich must not be taken lightly; The Heavy is completely vulnerable during the four second eating process, and his loud, happy sounds of vigorous chewing will draw enemies like tiny ant cowards to a picnic. OF DEATH. On the bright side, the Heavy’s Sandvich supply is unlimited, so his only real concern is being caught short while enjoying this delicious edible device. The Sandvich is a great tool for a Heavy defending an area, as it gives him the ability to replenish health between enemy waves without having to abandon his post. Similarly, an offensive Heavy without a Medic can step back from the front line and grab a quick snack before resuming his rampage. Beware, however: the Heavy must set aside his shotgun to take the Sandvich, and enemy Snipers are much more dangerous for a Heavy wielding only a minigun.

Created by Foo Foo and staring a collection of free running Halo 3 players, this video shows us that if you have the mind to do it, then nowhere is out of bounds. With the help of a few well placed granades and the rocket launcher, sees these players not only reach new heights, but seemingly walk on walls too (watch out for that near the end).

Filed under: Arts & Crafts, Video | Comments (0)I’m sure must of you will be familiar of the Snake game. The title that ship as standard with mobile phones before the age of colour screens (talk about show my age!). Snake has made the jump from little mobile screen to giant immobile screen.
This might remind you of the also awesome Tetris game recreated in dorm windows, which while similar, was created by an entirely different group of students. A group of Russian students to be exact and you can check out their work here House Tetris. This new work, however, was cleverly put togehter by Polish students and you check out more of their work at their youtube page.

Daniel Roswell @ 10:10 amMachinima UK Music Video Contest
Filed under: Events, Latest News, PC, Video | Comments (0)Have you ever watched Machinima and thought to yourself that you could do better? Or simply watched it and thought you’d like to give it a try? Well Machinima.com/uk and Rustlers Microwave snacks have teamed up with Jonathan Coulton (bloke above of Portal Still Alive fame) to offer UK residents a chance of Machinima fame and fortune.
The competition is to celebrate the launch of Machinima.com’s UK website and is part of it’s commitment to bringing the art of Machinima to the UK. Open to any UK resident over the age of eighteen, it’s a chance for any budding director to show off their skills and help raise their profile both within the community and for the community itself.
Jonathan Coulton has very kindly lent two of his songs to the competition, of which one needs to be used to create a music video within the realms of Machinima, it’s that simple. If you fancy a go at it you must hurry because you only have until 1st of August to submit your entry. For more information about the competition, the rules and the cool prizes on offer for the winners visit the competition page.
Also for those who would like to give it a try but lack the technical knowhow might want to check out DigitalPh33r’s Guide to Making Halo 3 Machinima: Parts One & Two (which granted are made will Halo 3 and Xbox in mind but are still full of useful information none the less).
Daniel Roswell @ 12:21 amQuake Live Trailer
Filed under: Latest News, PC, Video | Comments (0)It’s been quite a while since we heard anything about Quake Live, id’s free online Quake III game. It almost went through E3 without even a peep. Fortunately a trailer for the game was sighted by one of Destructoid’s readership (I’m assuming from the post credit) and posted on the website.
The idea of a free version of Quake both baffles and amazes, it’s a bold move by id and will be a timely reaction to current gaming market. Off course “free” comes at a price, which in this case you pay with your senses and not your wallet. This is because all of the 30 levels being made available will carry some form of advertisement, how much of an endorsement per stage is not yet known.
From a financial stand point the game is covered from the adverts, so the ability for these companies to recoup their investment will be scrutinised (if possible). I think the real question should be if from a gamers perspective, can a game laden with adverts be as immersive as one without?
I think this issue and ultimately its success will boil down if gamers can.

Daniel Roswell @ 10:50 pmMega Man 9 Trailer
Filed under: Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony, Video | Comments (0)The latest trailer for Mega Man 9 sets up the story by showing the introduction to the game as well as some snazzy editing splicing in some awesome gameplay footage too.
A word of warning for the uninitiated, in anticipation of Mega Man 9 and it’s throwback to 80’s gaming I decided to have myself some old school Mega Man loving. I’m embarrassed to admit that after playing the original game I came away having my arse well and truly kicked. Needless to say I’m determined to recapture my 80’s gaming mojo and best Mega Man, I think that all these fancy 3D graphics have softened me up over the years and I’m not as hardcore is I think I am!
All indications point to Mega Man 9 being every bit as hard as the original it’s trying to emulate. which is great news indeed and should blow away some of the cobwebs of living on rich 3D grahpics these past 10 years.
