Command & Conquer Tiberium Canned

Way back in December of last year I did a post about the recently announced Command & Conquer Tiberium, now two months shy of it’s anniversary EA brings word of it’s demise.

Tiberium was being developed from the ground up as a squad based first person shooter, where the player assumes the role of Ricardo Vega and an assortment of infantry to command. If this announcement comes as a disappointment to you, then spare a thought for the game’s dev team, who are potentially out of a job.

The reasoning behind the cancealation, which was issued in a press release was that “The game was not on track to meet the high quality standards set by the team and by the EA Games label. A lower quality game is not in the best interest of the consumers and would not succeed in this market.”

I’m not sure how far the game had come, far enough to decide it wasn’t financial viable that’s for sure. Even with the current market problems nobody wants to knowingly release a dud. Are we seeing the first signs of the world wide financial storm cloud America has very kindly brought upon us? The world’s largest game company canning games and culling staff will certainly send shivers down spines around the industry.
