We’ve had the evolution of the game controller, but what about the family tree of game controllers? The above image shows us what a family tree might look like if say, the Wii remote wanted to trace it’s ancestry. Even though both concepts display the same information, the evolution shows the progression in a linear fashion with a few notes on each, whereas the evolution shows, and tells us a lot more. The family tree not only has the natural progression within one company it also demonstrates how controllers have (potentially) influenced rival companies’ controllers too. As an added bonus the tree is also interactive, so click down on a particular controller for a bit more information about it.
