The great thing about festivals and exhibitions is the opportunity to play, and if not to play, but to see a glimpse of the up and coming titles due out at some point in the future.
Ubisoft just recently had a spate of showings at recent events that gave not everyone a chance to play some of their anticipated titles, like Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell Conviction. Now, Ruffian Games are joining in on the fun with a public viewing of Crackdown 2 at the NEoN Digital Arts Festival and the catch? The event is held in Dundee, which is good news for gamers living locally but not so great for everybody else. In all fairness though, we do get our fair share of exhibitions in London, we even had to back to back a few weekends ago.
The sequel is set some ten years after the first instalment, placing the player as another genetically-modified agent sent out onto the streets of Pacific City. The once-bustling metropolis has been ravaged by infection and the ongoing struggle for power over the city’s inhabitants. The player returns to fight off hordes of Freaks following their accidental release into the populace and regain control of the City from the hands of The Cell – a powerful terrorist organisation fighting to overthrow the Agency.
The original Crackdown had the unfortunate burden of being saddled with the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta, which meant some people bought just to get their hands on Halo 3. Fortunately Crackdown was a solid enough title to shine on its own merits and thankfully spawn a sequel.
