Endless Ocean 2: Beautiful Ocean

Endless Ocean 2

Who would have thought that a deep sea diving game could be so much fun?  Well game developer Arika has been producing these for some time now and the newest one, Endless Ocean 2 will be beaching itself on our shores early next year.

Personally playing through the first Endless Ocean game, I can highly recommend this to anyone who would like to try a video game that doesn’t have time limits, life meters, high pressure missions, or even a game over screen.  There is no failure in this game, just pure relaxing and beautiful ocean to explore and the second iteration in this series seems to expand on this idea even more.  Watch the latest trailer for this gorgeous Wii game below:

For those of you who have played the original you may notice some new elements being introduced this time around.  You will no longer be confined to one specific area of the globe or even just the ocean for that fact.  You will be diving in places like murky rivers, ice covered Antarctica, fresh water lakes, and even submerged ruins.  You can bet your bottom dollar that we will also be seeing a large amount of new critters since we will be diving in new types of areas.  It is said that these diving locations will be actual locals instead resembling the actual wildlife of that area.  So, yes you will be bitten by piranha in the Amazon so try not to get too close to them.

Just like the previous game you cannot die.  You do have an air tank meter in this one and if you run out of air or you are attacked enough times by an aggressive creature, you will be returned to the boat so that you can try again.  The non-death feature has turned some gamers away from this franchise, but I don’t think it lessens this game at all.  I think it is refreshing that I don’t have to die, instead this game rewards you for doing well instead of penalizes you for doing poorly.

It appears that you have the same tools as the original; underwater pen, whistle, camera, and food.  It also seems that you get some sort of radar and a tranquilizer gun.  I see that you will be searching out sick creatures and to heal them in some way.  The above video shows you applying a treatment to a shark and after they hit the shark a handful of times they are presented with the work ‘cure’.

Exploration is still the major driver in this game.  It is up to you to search out hidden artifacts as well as interact and document the many species of marine life that you will encounter.  Some screenshots also give us the hint that multi-player will indeed be returning, hopefully without friend codes and with WiiSpeak support (but how do you talk underwater?). Also your trusty dolphin friends will be back again.  I hear that you can now ride on the back of the dolphins to increase your speed underwater, that sounds like a lot of fun all by itself.  The dolphin training returns, but then again I had a hard time getting into that aspect of the original game.

I look forward to my next underwater adventure on the Wii.

I too loved the first game, and I would say it’s a must for any Wii owner out there..!

This game and it’s first incarnation suck like a blackhole in a vacumn-cleaning contest. Boredom is not the word for it. This game is for grannies and people who have to take prescription medication to retain a grip on their nerves.

Hope Nintendo paid you well for this bit of “journalism”.

There’s a thought getting paid to write about games, I suppose if we did that then we would have to rename the site to “Killzone-ftw.com”, or something similar.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft don’t pay for this site and the thoughts and opinions expressed on this site are made by individuals that appreciate a wide selection of games.

Not every game is intended for every gamer and if you don’t like Forever Blue, then that’s fine, it’s your opinion. To assume somebody likes it because they are being “paid” to like it, well that’s incredibly naive and narrow minded.

I appreciate the comment from KZ. Thanks for sharing your thought.

It takes all kinds of gamers to make this world go around. I loved the first one and yes it was very soothing even when nerves were high, but I haven’t had a need for meds (not yet at least).

Nintendo has paid me. They have paid me with years of enjoyment playing the video games they publish.
