I would be happy if movie producers kept their grubby mitts off computer games entirely and stuck to what they know best, which is remaking old classics. Well, actually I’d prefer it if they didn’t do that either and took a stab at doing something original, but since you can’t have your cake and eat it, leave games to the gamers. Take this fan made Half-Life 2, which has been made by two brothers who work in the film industry, but are so obviously gamers too.
Set during the events of H-L2: Episode 1, this short follows the lives of two resistance fighters as they try to escape City 17, much in the same way Gordon and Alyx are after they restore the Citadel core. The level of detail transferred to celluloid is incredible and it’s very obvious that the purchase brothers have a lot of love for Half-Life. It’s particularly impressive to learn that it cost $500 to produce the first two episodes, considering how good they look.

It’s a daming indictment of Hollywood that someone can do more with $500 and a passion for the subject than any mainstream film director has ever done with their “experience” and multi-million budgets!
I’d like to say that something like this should be snapped up by a studio. However, it reminds me of a fantastic little sci-fi show I used to watch called Space: Above and Beyond – which sadly never made it beyond series 1, despite having the same producers as the X-Files.
