Fresh images of Pandemic’s WWII colour centric action game have just landed for you to ogle at. They mainly show our protagonist Sean Devlin and glimpses of the pièce de résistance, its colour changing scenery. On the subject of resistance, although in a slightly different context, the game is based on actual resistance fighter William Grover-Williams.
Grover-Williams was, as in the game was a Grand Prix motor racer turned Nazi Saboteur for the Special Operations Executive (SOE). Through his work as part of the resistance, he helped initiate the Chestnut network, a group of resistance fighters that operated in and around the Paris region in France. He operated throughout most of the war until his capture and execution in 1943.
The game will undoubtedly draw some unfortunate parallels with Replay Studio’s Velvet Assassin, which was released a few months ago and sunk without a trace after a critical mauling. Both games are set in WWII and have SOE saboteurs as the lead, who are at least based on real life people and events. Velvet Assassin was inspired by Violette Szabo and The Saboteur on Grover-Williams, hopefully that’s where the similarities end.
Play as Sean Devlin, a street-tough Irish racing mechanic seeking personal redemption in the first open-world action game set in Nazi-occupied Europe. Now, it’s time for payback—with the help of the French Resistance, British intelligence, an arsenal of weaponry, and your own street smarts and brawn, you must exact revenge on those who aimed to destroy your life. Motivated by retribution and armed with tactics of sabotage, blow up zeppelins, derail trains, implode bridges, destroy armored tanks, and level enemy facilities in the name of vengeance.
