Frube: Frustration Gamecube

Categories: Uncategorized
Written By: Daniel Roswell

Artist Kathryn Elliot was asked to redesign a product based on a dominant emotion associated with it, she choose the GameCube and gave birth to the Frube or Frustration GameCube.

The resulting design is influenced heavily by frustration and as such the colour scheme and appearance is one of aggression and confusion. The sharp angles and bright yellow colour certainly gives off an aggressive vibe, one that you certainly wouldn’t usually associate with the family friendly console.

Here is an excerpt from Kathryn about the project.

This project was intended to be an introduction to both colour and to expressing emotion through design. Part 1 required students to find a small to medium sized product with a dominant colour other than the neutrals (black, gray, metallic, beige or white). We then had to prepare an A2 presentation board that illustrates the product and analyses the colour(s) present, based on hue, chroma, value and transparency.
