Ever since I watched the Sony E3 conference I can’t stop thinking about Gran Turismo 5. This game has really evolved since the last time we have seen it and I am becoming very excited to someday own it and let it punish me with its pinprick precision driving. As masochistic as this may sound, I will love every minute of it’s brutally honest driving simulation.
I have a confession to make, I don’t own a Playstation 3. I know I suck because of it, but man those things are really expensive. Regardless of price, I firmly believe that I will buy a Playstation 3 just to play Gran Turismo 5. This game looks that good.
Before E3 my impression of GT5 was it was just another driving simulator that is going to have a bunch of tracks and a bunch of cars that will be insanely hard to drive. Well, that fact may still be true, but now it has all new added depth with the addition of WRC and NASCAR. These two racing series will be adding completely different driving elements to the series and giving us a chance to really see what it feels like to drive amongst many of today’s racing superstars. Feast your eyes on the video that has been dominating my video game thoughts:
I may not be a NASCAR fanatic, but I can appreciate the dynamics and the strategies it takes to win these type of races. Believe it or not, it is much more than going fast and turning left. These race teams spend countless hours practicing and fine tuning their cars for a the big race weekend. These races will be about fast pit stops and well tuned cars. Hopefully we will have all 22 official tracks spanning the 36 race season. Judging from the video, we will see all of the major players in the sport and hopefully we will see some smart AI. So when we accidentally wipe someone out in a race, maybe they will give us some payback later in the season.
WRC is my true passion. This is racing in its purist form. Take any road, in any condition, and drive as fast as humanly possible on it. If you flip your car or crash, get out and try your best to get it back on the road so you can keep going. 12 different races, each of which are typically broken into several segments where you could be driving on tarmac, dirt, gravel, or even snowy roads. The meek should not apply.
With these new additions GT5 seems almost too ambitious at times. We certainly have been waiting for a release date for some time and none was given at e3 this year. Kazunori Yamauchi did go on record to say, “I want to release it as fast as I can, but GT5 for us, when you talk about its status, it’s at a point we can release it any time we want, but we can always keep working on it. It’s very important for us to make sure everything is done perfectly and everything is done in detail.”
Whenever it does decide to be release, I look forward to playing it.

Polyphony digital know how to make a trailer thats for sure, they have had a good 5 years to perfect it and thats just for GT5, which leads to my thoughts on the trailer. Nice shots of trams and people sticking their head out of hotel rooms, now as nice as this is, it is not gameplay and its not a car or track. The game has been too long in development already so stop with the art shots and get down to the physics or something…. Still love it tho, WRC is awsome but looked weak in the trailer, NASCAR, well blows if you asked me, but looked awsome in the trailer. That said I am itching to play it and decide for myself if its been worth the wait.
