To a lot of old school gamers if you mention LucasArts, they are more likely to rattle of titles like Maniac Manson, Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango, than Sci-Fi opus Star Wars. That is because during the nineties (while the beard himself was busy with remastering the original trilogy) the games division was busy pumping out critically, if not financially successful games.
One of the best games to come out of LucasArts, was also one of it’s least successful too. Released 1998 to a wide positive reception Fandango failed to ignite the sales charts. It’s not really known why this was the case, although a certain Gordon Freeman might have had something to do with it.
It’s been ten years since it’s original release and Tim Schafer decided (in a bout of nostalgia) to upload the original 72 page design document. The document itself dates back to 1996, when the game was just a glint in Tim eye but you can see that most of the game had already been mapped out. As you would expect the document does vary from the finished product, owing to time constraint as well as technical difficulties.
A definate must for game historians and fans of LucasArts during their heyday.
