Correct me if I’m wrong but is this the first time a song from a video game has been released into the music charts? I am neglecting the obvious Video Games Live as being a compilation as opposed to one specific attempt. The Mirror Edge theme song, which is titled “Still Alive”, not to be confused with the Portal end credits titled “Still Alive” is sung by Lisa Miskovsky from Sweden where she is really famous (and nowhere else). The hope that this could be her big break in the US and so they pulled out all the stops with this music video.
As for the confusingly similar titles both songs are called “Still Alive” but after hearing this version you can tell the context is completely different. Whereas Portal’s version is a response to your attempted execution of Glados, with what some might call a triumphant announcement of her continued existence. The Mirror’s Edge version is more of a metaphysical question of existence in modern society. Makes sense, I think…
