Nintedo Says Sorry
For a while now Nintendo’s seasoned fans have felt a bit left out by their shiny new “casual” philosophy.
It seemed that E3 was the final nail in the head, when prior to E3 it was promised that they would cater for hardcore gamers as well as the casual and then promptly showed nothing. Yes they showed Animal Crossing, Wii Sports Resort and Wii Music, and even though Animal Crossing is part of an older, more hardened Nintendo none of these can be labelled hardcore games.
From a gamer’s perspective being told and not shown games is like a kick to the teeth. It’s feels like an afterthought, “oh yeah, we’re also working on Mario, Zelda and Pikmin etc.” and it certainly felt that way during E3. Nintendo isn’t completely to blame, as consumers we think with our wallets and judging by this year’s E3 Nintendo wasn’t the only company not to bother.
“We are sorry about [the E3] media briefings, specifically for those who were expecting to see Nintendo show something about Super Mario or Legend of Zelda,” Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told Forbes.
So there you have it every cloud does have a silver lining, even if it’s really small and you can’t see it without a microscope.
