Nintendo Says Sorry For Brawl (Almost!)

Nintendo has had a reputation that it doesn’t like Europe for a long time now and with Smash brothers Brawl being delayed, it certainly seems like Nintendo aren’t in any rush to change a habit of a life time. This month’s issue of Official Nintendo Magazine contains a brief chat on the subject with Laurent Fischer.

“Every time you go through localisation you then have to put it through a test, which involves making sure that you recorded the proper voice, and that the proper voice is being activated with the proper trigger, at the proper time… so it’s not just a case of swapping over some words, it requires some proper extra development processes. And so it takes time.”

“I realise that from time to time we have still been disappointing some people, but in general we have also been able to bring to them games which would have never been available before in a European market, and the time frame is slowly decreasing, so I’m positive for the future. We know that we are still not reaching the expectations of all the people, but we’re really doing our best to resolve this.”

Is it just me or does this smack of political double speak? Unfortunately Nintendo shot themselves in the foot when they produced a near simultaneous release for Super Mario Galaxy, proving that for some games language is no barrier. Then adding insult to injury by releasing two major Wii titles in the form of Mario Kart Wii and WiiFit before America, which suggests priory treatment.

Don’t worry Nintendo all will be forgiven on June 27th, but I sincerely hope that you are listening to or whines!
