Retro Video Game Deaths

There’s nothing like the animation of your digital death to let you know that you’ve just failed. Of course in this more politically correct world, sometimes an animated death can be few and far between. This wasn’t the case a number of generations ago, back then your death was the surest way of letting you know that you sucked.

Just to remind you exactly how brutal things were, Rob Beschizza, Managing Editor of Boing Boing has created this wonderful video of retro video gaming deaths. I found the video quite painful in some places, it brought up a few long distant memories from my gaming past. Especially for games like Ghouls n Goblins which took no prisoners, gives me shivers just thinking about it.

As a small aside, I found the header image while searching for an appropriate picture and I think I found it too. Drawn by deviantartist, thebourgyman it nicely encapsulates the video.

The music, as I’m sure you recognise is Mad World, by Tears for Fears.
