Yes you heard that right… Here at Level Select, I am all but aware that I am the only Mac user between all the staff. Which has led to many a comment about “why aren’t you on Steam?” So I had to fix that…
So in a mission to rectify this I looked around to running Windows on my Mac, because Value don’t at this time (or in the foreseeable future) offer a Mac client of Steam.
Now as you other Mac user will know i’m sure, there are number of ways to run Windows on your Mac:
All require you to install Windows and additional software. All options have positives and negative sides. The main part which I didn’t want to do was install Windows on my Mac. Id feel I was cheating on it!
So CrossOver to the rescue!
Crossover to Mac, lets you run Windows apps and games very easily, with no need to install Windows! Yep you heard right again! NO WINDOWS needed!
Im still not sure how it works, but its brilliant. In the space of about an hour, I had downloaded the application from there website, installed Steam and started playing Team Fortress 2 with my boys at Level Select. See image below:
All I can say is, best $40 dollars I ever spent. Also, I can now start building Source Maps using the SDK, which im very excited about!

Missed something? why not look back at what has happened, you might find something special..!

To give you a little insight… Crossover Uses the Originally Designed “Wine”(winehq.org), Which was for GNU/Linux Operating systems. Later, Wine caught Commercial Attention and was purchased by CodeWeavers, the Makers of Crossover Office, Crossover Mac, Crossover Game and Crossover Linux…
Crossover, and Wine in its self, work by Emulating Windows API environment, Converting there Command Calls to you’re Platform Specific. Although Crossover doesnt work with Everything, it does have Quite a Lead over many Products, and should never be over looked for a Alternative, to Windows Applications/Games on Non-Windows Operating Systems.

Hi! I’m the same … one Mac user amongst a see of Windows lusers. ;-)
Crossover looks interesting, but I’m trying to resist even that – I want native games for the Mac! However, Dawn of War II … :( I really want to play this.
So my question to you is – have you tried DOWII on your Mac yet?
Thanks in advance.

Did they repair the steam-community thing?
I could never activate that chat-and-community-layer, the codeweavers guys said in their forums that they couldn’t add this functionality because it works by some tech that is in windows and can not be emulated.
Did that change, can you open your community layer (or whatever it is called) in-game and chat with people? I could never answer incoming chats or calls which disturbed some of my mates.

PS: I’m also very interested in the Dawn of War II question ;) i guess if a version works it would be the steam one cause the boxed version of DOW I didn’t work with crossover, the steamversion did.
