What if Team Fortress 2 Wasn’t Team Fortress 2?

Its only natural as humans to question our very being, who are we, what are we doing here and all that jazz. What you wont find is a game questioning its purpose or wondering if it would be better suited in a different genre, that is of course unless we ask the question ourselves. Over on the Steam comunity forums, the question has been asked “What if Team Fortress 2 was not a FPS but… a fighter? or a...  (read more »)

E3 2010: Portal 2 Gameplay Footage

One of the most shocking events of E3 2010 has got to be when Gabe Newell strolled onto the stage right in the middle of the Sony conference. Valve promised a surprise during E3 and this was it, Valve and Sony working together and properly this time. In hindsight the thought of Valve working with Sony shouldn’t have been all that shocking, after all Valve had back-tracked on working on Macs not so long...  (read more »)

Portal 2 is Officially Announced!

The moment I and many many others have been waiting on for years is finally approaching. Portal 2 is finally coming! (I’ll give you a moment to giggle with glee.) According to Game Informer, the second installment in the much loved button-ridden world will be a “full fledged, standalone sequel” which will incorporate, if I interpret that correctly, a full story and (if the reports from last year...  (read more »)

Valve thinks Brits don’t talk?

As I was surfing the web for my morning gaming news, not only did I feel like an old man opening the daily paper but I also ran into an interesting quote over at Destructiod.com. They have Chet Faliszek (pictured above) from Left 4 Dead 2 going on record with a statement that was a little perturbing. The Valve writer says, in a nutshell, that Brits don’t communicate when playing online. The distressing...  (read more »)

Meet the Sniper SDK Assets

The chances are, if you are a PC gamer then you’ve tried your hand at creating your own gaming content, be it level editing, character modelling or gameplay modes. Such is the popularity of modding PC games that its part of the landscape, so much so that developers generally release game editing tools with the game or make them freely available for any user. Valve, who have always been actively involved in...  (read more »)

Team Fortress 2: Classless Update Day 2

The second day in Valve’s classless update brings the old favourite King of the Hill to the class based shooter. KOTH, for those unfamiliar with the gameplay mode, has nothing to do with the Mike Judge comedy about Texan Hank Hill, nor does it actually have anything to do with hills per se. Simply put KOTH is all about capturing a single location (which could be a hill, but not necessarily) and then...  (read more »)

Portal In ASCII..?

Who here has played Portal..? If you haven’t you should. If you have I’m sure you will be amazed at how incredibly, supremely awesome and a touch nerdy this video below is. What exactly has been done here? well, some clever people have managed to do is recreate Valve’s Portal using only ASCII which to my knowledge is not an easy task. ASCIIpOrtal Update 2 Is your head hurting like mine is, trying to...  (read more »)

Left 4 Dead 2 Trailer

Just moments after Microsoft showed us L4D2 Valve throws up this official press release about the game and the trailer turns up online too. Expect this to happen a lot over the next couple of days. Sequel to Best-Selling Co-op Thriller Coming This Holiday June 1, 2009 – Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and...  (read more »)

Spy Update (Lesson Learned Edition)

It’s day five of the Sniper updates, or day two of the Spy gatecrashing the Sniper updates (personally I think Valve should throw in an Engineer update to really mix things up) and with it comes the “Meet the” video for the Spy. As I’m sure by now everyone has seen it thanks to the Steam forums very own spy, take Valve’s advise and try to act surprised when you watch it the second...  (read more »)

Spy Muscles In On Sniper Update

For the latest update to the Sniper Class we get a surprise in the form of a Spy update. Following on from yesterday’s Razorback that can kill a spy if he tries to stab you while wearing one, we find out that with the use of one of his new gizmos he can fake death. This makes the spy even trickier than before because not only are you never certain who is or who isn’t a spy, now you’re never...  (read more »)

Team Fortress 2: Sniper Update Day 3

Day three of the Sniper update introduces us to the Razorback, a traditional hand made aboriginal shield. Reminiscent to the shields Chris Redifeld encounters in Resident Evil 5, which are about as much use as a cardboard box, the razorback is only good for one attack. After that it crumbles into pieces, the good news is that to give it an extra kick the shield has been retro fitted with a car battery. Zapping...  (read more »)

Team Fortress 2: Sniper Update Day 2

Day two of the Team Fortress update and we learn more about what to expect from Valve’s touted Sniper Update. Today It’s all about modes and maps, first up is a variation on the Payload game type called Payload Race. Even though there are no specifics of this new mode veterans of the game shouldn’t need any further explanation. For Xbox 360 Orange box users, or for non-Team Fortress 2 players...  (read more »)

Team Fortress 2: The Sniper Update

Of all the TF2 Classes, the Sniper class is my least played class, this is because I can’t snipe worth a damn. You could argue that I’m not good because I don’t spend enough time as a sniper, and because I don’t spend enough time playing as the Sniper I’m not very good at him (Just thinking about this circular logic is enough to make me cross eyed). It could also stem from a deep...  (read more »)

Left 4 Dead Survival Mode Impressions

The new content for L4D was made available last night, part of it was the expansion of the Vs mode to incorporate all campaign levels and the other part was a new mode called Survival mode. After downloading the new content and some extensive gaming I thought I would share what’s fresh and what’s rotten flesh in zombie land. For the uninitiated, throughout the course of L4D’s main game you will...  (read more »)

The Science Of Survival

The free survival pack downloadable content for Left 4 Dead will be available for both PC and Xbox360 next week. So Valve has taken this opportunity to update the L4D blog with some information on the difficulties of creating a balanced spawning system for the survival mode. From the sound of the information at hand Valve has spent a very long time trying to balance all manner of variables within this content and...  (read more »)
