DKC3

Nintendo has given us a little Christmas surprise this morning in the form of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble.

DKC 3 Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble – SNES – 800 Poins

Third in the Donkey Kong Country Trilogy of games, this title was originally released in the twilight of the SNES’s life cycle meaning not a lot of people had the opportunity to appreciate it.

Following on the story from the other two games, where previously Donkey Kong got kidnapped leaving it up to Diddy and Dixie Kong to rescue him. This time around both Donkey and Diddy have been kidnapped; Dixie becomes the main character and gets some assistance in the form of Kiddy Kong.

Technically speaking the game is very similar to the previous installment, with a lick of paint added to the visuals to make them some of the best graphics on the SNES bettered only by Nintendo’s own Yoshi’s Island. The world is much bigger than the other two games with so many more secrets find (which involve finding rare banana birds!) and hidden areas to unlock.

The game also features the now standard 101% completion, although in true sequel form Rare takes the completion ratio to 105%. Just like the other games in the series this one also found a second home on the GBA.

This game is highly recommended to anyone who doesn’t already own it on either the SNES of the GBA.
